An official reported that six coaches of the Assam-bound North East Superfast Express derailed in Bihar's Buxar district. The incident happened on Wednesday night at 9:53 p.m., close to the Raghunath train station.
The 23-coach train No. 12506 left the Anand Vihar terminal in Delhi at 7:40 a.m. on Wednesday, and the incident happened at 9:53 p.m., close to Raghunathpur railway station.
The Indian Railways declared payments of ₹10 lakh to each of the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 to each of the injured.
The railway minister posted on X, "Rescue operation going on at a war footing at the Buxar derailment site. NDRF, SDRF, district administration, railway officials, and local residents are all working as one team. Injured individuals have been shifted to a hospital. The war room is operating.
The railways have issued emergency helpline numbers for passengers: 9771449971 (Patna), 8306182542 (Ara), 8905697493 (Danapur).
PM Narendra Modi posted on X: "Pained by the loss of lives due to the derailment of a few coaches of the North East Express. Condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for a quick recovery for the injured. Authorities are providing all possible assistance to all those affected."
Minister of State Nityanand Rai said, "Three teams of NDRF were rushed to the spot last night once we received information about the incident. The NDRF teams launched the relief and rescue operation along with the local administration," Nityanand Rai told ANI on October 12.
East Central Railway's Chief Public Relations Officer, Birendra Kumar, said in a statement, "A high-level inquiry has been ordered to investigate the reason behind the incident."
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi posted, "I express my deep condolences to the bereaved families and hope for an early and speedy recovery for the injured. Congress workers are urged to fully cooperate with the authorities in the relief work."
