California earthquake news or Ojai earthquake: Sunday, August 20, 2023, rain falls as people walk around Los Angeles. Thomsen stated that the earthquake struck while emergency personnel were preparing for Hurricane Hilary: "We are in the middle of the first tropical storm since 1939, and we just had an earthquake."
An unusual tropical storm made its first appearance in the Los Angeles region in decades at the same time as the earthquake. For the first time ever, Southern California is under a tropical storm warning, and rain is predicted to continue through Sunday night in most of Los Angeles County.
